Official Opening of Newly Redeveloped Clubhouse

On Saturday, 14th April 2007 the historic reopening of the newly redeveloped Clubhouse took place in beautiful sunshine. The Clubhouse has been in operation since Tuesday, 13th February 2007.

The official opening ceremony and reception involved the cutting of the ribbon by this year’s Captains Tom Mason and Susan O’Loughlin with the 2006 Captain, Michael Scannell. Prayers and blessing of the building was performed by Fr Liam Belton of Kilquade Parish and Rev Nigel Waugh of the Delgany Church of Ireland. The Lady Captain Susan O’Loughlin welcomed over 200 members and guests and Captain Tom Mason as Chairperson of the Management Committee highlighted the great work achieved by previous Captains and Committees since 2000 in relation to the course and clubhouse development projects which are now completed and represent an investment of over €5 ½ million by the Club. He also thanked the Architects, Contractors, Design and Project Teams, House Committees and the General Manager Peter Ribeiro for delivering such a fine redeveloped Clubhouse. In attendance representing the GUI and ILGU were Fintan Buckley and Frances Wogan, Chairpersons of the Leinster Branch and Eastern District respectively.

To mark the occasion a Texan scramble with two shotgun starts was held and this event was won by Patrick Burke, Pauline Burke, Anthony Byrne and Ruth Raymond with a score of 51. The various events of the day were extremely well attended and over 200 members enjoyed the buffet dinner and entertainment that evening. The Architects, DMOD and Contractors, J Burke & Co were presented with commemorative gifts to mark the occasion as were the Captains of 2007, Tom and Susan and 2006 Michael and Avril, as well as the Chairperson of the Project Team, Mahon Murphy.

The Clubhouse

The newly redeveloped Clubhouse on the existing footprint of the old Clubhouse offers first class Bar, Restaurant, Function and Meeting Rooms all on the first floor with unique panoramic views of the surrounding hills, sea and village which can also be viewed from the balconies which surround the Clubhouse and overlook the recently developed golf course. At ground floor level there are new locker and changing facilities as well as Snooker Room and a new Delgany Pro Shop operated by the club’s golf Professional Gavin Kavanagh.

The front entrance reception area leads into the Gallery where a photographic history of the Club is hung in chronological order. In addition, the Famous Faces of Delgany, the winning teams over the years and the strong links between the Club and the Ryder Club are prominently displayed. The offices of the Club: Administration, Accounts and General Manager are located on the left of the reception area.
